About us

The „Singgemeinschaft Oisternig“ has its origins in Feistritz im Gailtal, a small village located where the three countries Austria, Italy and Slovenia share their borders. The choir is named after the local mountain „Oisternig“, rising 2052 meters in the Carnic Alps.
It was founded in 1949 and lays its focus on preserving the traditional bilingual (carinthian and slovenian) songs from its local area, the lower „Gailtal“. Furthermore, the repertoire includes secular and sacred music from all epochs as well as spirituals, gospels and pop music.
This broad musical spectrum reflects on the slogan of the Singgemeinschaft Oisternig:
„Connected to the indigenous songs and open for the unknown!“

The musical direction lays in the hands of Christof Mörtl who took over from his father, Prof. Franz Mörtl, in the year 2009.

We are pleased about your interest in our homepage and wish you a lot of fun exploring our choir!
Kind regards,
Your Singgemeinschaft Oisternig
